Aimizm is the online portfolio of Gary Swindell. I’m a freelance Brand Designer with over 15 years experience in branding and identity. I work directly for design agencies and a small group of clients in the UK and Scandinavia providing strategy, design and art direction.
My Approach
A typical project would involve working with clients to define how design can help their business, whether it’s a strategic rebrand or launching a start up. I’m a big believer in listening, sharing insight and practical advice.
Once the direction is agreed I’ll develop the design through art direction to final implementation, partnering with the best talent through the process to deliver the best result. I’m passionate about visual communication, solving problems and creating brands that connect.

My Background
I studied graphic design and began my career working with Elmwood. In ’96 I moved to Oslo to join Scandinavian Design Group part of the McCann-Erickson Worldgroup. As Creative Director I worked equally with the strategic and creative teams on some of the biggest brands in the Nordic region.
In 2001 I co-founded Mission Design with Bård Annweiler as part of the Leo Burnett Group with a primary focus on brand identity. I relocated to England in 2006 as Creative Director of Thompson Brand Partners. I formed Aim in 2007
Recognition
To date I’ve received over 40 design awards including: DBA Design Effectiveness, Design Week (UK), Mobius (US), Clio (US) and Gullblyanten, I’ve also won 8 Visuelt Golds, 10 Design Excellence and 3 DesignEffekt awards from the Norwegian Design Council. My work has also been featured in several international design magazines, books and blogs.
